Outline

The clutter…

Marie Kondo, Joshua Becker, the minimalist documentaries.

#1 Issue with clutter is “mindset.”

  • Consumerism; more stuff; latest gadgets = success

When you help your child see that STUFF doesn’t equal success of wealth, they will strongly benefit in 3 areas:

  1. Comparison

  2. Money management

  3. Contentment

3 AREAS TO DECLUTTER WITH YOUR KID: Modify as needed for the age groups

  1. Toys– what do you no longer need in your toy room or closet?
Ex: age + development; broken + missing pieces; no longer enjoy. A great motivator with this is to help them sell their toys and either save, invest, or buy a larger “something” they’ve been wanting.

  2. Schedule– what is cluttering your schedule?
Ex: sports; school commitments; job; social media; video games

  3. Clothes– what clothes have you outgrown, dislike, or don’t wear?
Help them clean out their closet. If they don’t like wearing it, let them get rid of it!

I’d love to hear how these conversations are going with your kids! Go to my website drkellycagle.com to contact me or find me on Instagram or Facebook @drkellycagle. I know how beneficial these moments have been in my home. In fact, my favorite moment was last week when Levi and I were driving home from soccer practice, and I asked him if he wanted to put on music, and he said, “no, I feel like talking. I just don’t know what to say.”

When kids are given the opportunity to digest new information with you, their #1 teacher, in their safe space, they begin welcoming new challenges, as their curiosity, competence, and confidence flourishes… making them lifelong learners.
