Outline

Devastation seeps in when your child doesn’t make varsity, gets the starting position, or gets the leading role.

Truth is, there are prettier people, wealthier entrepreneurs, and more talented athletes out there. Instead of letting comparison lead to jealousy, let’s teach our kids to celebrate others!

James 3:13-18

3 WAYS TO HELP YOUR KIDS CELEBRATE OTHERS

  1. Let them hear you celebrate others
Ex: “What a great message the pastor preached today!”; “Great game, coach!”; “I’m so happy you made the cheer squad!”; “Congratulations on your promotion!”

  2. Watch out for the blame game to elevate yourself
    Ex: Matthew 7:1-3

  3. Remember that everyone has a story
Ex: You don’t know their homelife; you don’t know their battles; Mark 12:29-31

Outro
“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.” (James 3:17-18). Be intentional about celebrating others, watch out for the blame game to make yourself feel better, and never forget that everyone is fighting their own battles.
When kids are given the opportunity to digest new information with you, their #1 teacher, in their safe space, they begin welcoming new challenges, as their curiosity, competence, and confidence flourishes… making them lifelong learners.
