INSIGHTS

Disclosure: use discretion when listening (aka, there may be things you don’t want your younger child hearing).

According to mayoclinic.org, “10 to 20% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage” (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pregnancy-loss-miscarriage/symptoms-causes/syc-20354298).

I am included in that statistic. In fact, I’ve experienced 3 miscarriages.

In my experience:

  • Women process the loss differently than men because of the physical changes that take place so quickly in women’s bodies

  • For a long time, I didn’t realize how it was impacting me emotionally

  • I didn’t share about the grief I was experiencing

    • Baby showers were hard, even though I truly wanted to celebrate with others

    • Being happy for others was hard, even though I truly wanted to be

    • Watching a few high school students get pregnant was really hard

I chose a worship song during each season. When I hear the songs now, I still remember the pain.

How it impacted Levi… that I only saw surfacing after Titus was born.

My advice:

  • Really pay attention to your emotions

  • Give yourself permission to feel them

  • Make sure you talk to your spouse about them

  • Have community and share about the hard days

  • If you have kids old enough to understand, check on them too
