on today’s episode…

Whether you’re a parent, entrepreneur, or educator this is one of the most important things to keep at the forefront of your mind– that every single person in the entire world has a story.

insights

Parenthood: You bring your own wounds and experiences to parenthood, workplace, and interactions. Although you may claim your children “have it so good,” they’re also dealing with various wounds and experiences along the way as well– from home or school.

In business: You are leading, motivating, and challenging various personalities. Or you are collaborating with individuals who tick differently than you.

Educator: During my teaching days, a few of my years were spent in a Title 1 school. Those experiences shaped my heart quite a bit.

  • Foster children

  • Soccer game arguments

  • Detention students

We are living in a world that is after convenience. We want things faster. Simpler. And in the pursuit of convenience, we can overlook connection.

“When you encourage someone, it literally changes their brain chemistry to be able to perform… sends fuel to the brain.” -Henry Cloud

There are simple and free ways to encourage others:

  1. SMILE

  2. GIVE A COMPLIMENT

  3. POUND, HIGH-FIVE, PAT ON THE BACK, HUG.

We also live in a society where people seek praise and affirmation– through likes, attention, awards, rewards.

In parenthood: Affirm your kids they’re winners, even when they didn’t win the award. Teach them a healthy balance of attention.

In business: As a boss, have an open door policy, where you literally welcome any questions, comments, or concerns. As a co-worker, be a good person to work with.

In education: Don’t assume.

Closing: Bob Goff’s part of Everybody Always p.19.
