Outline

Next week, we’re going to dive deeper into the conversation of stuff– what we really need versus what we end up setting our focus on– which is a huge topic for kids and a conversation that is so important and needed!

So in preparation for that conversation, I want to talk about how to have an epic spring break that takes a small hit on our wallets!

Because here’s the truth, if we don’t do our part on planning for these breaks, such as spring, winter, or summer breaks, the chances of us going over the budget are extremely likely. It’s either that, or they’ll end up in front of screens the entireeee time.

We find this warning in Proverbs 29:18, “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.” And, although this is talking about us accepting God’s divine guidance, I find the verse very application for our role as parents and the responsible parties over our kids’ activities.

My 11 year old, Levi, helped me create this list. I asked him for 5 fun things, and here’s what he said: indoor waterpark, sleepovers, yes days, vacation, going out to dinner… then he added “friends!”

4 EPIC, CHEAP IDEAS TO HAVE FUN (Modify as needed for the age groups)

  1. Yes days
    Ex: parks; dog parks; bike trails; hiking; ice cream treat; family sleepover

  2. Have fun with food
    Ex: go to Sam’s, Costco, or Trader Joe’s and stock up on fun snacks; bake cookies; everyone chooses a meal of their choice

  3. Fun with friends
    Ex: Put on a neighborhood basketball/pickleball tournament;

  4. Game nights
    Ex: Start a puzzle; card games; Mexican train
