Outline
By the end of the school year, you are done with the academic year and so are your kids.
Instead of just checking off the box of whatever grade your child just completed, see each school year as a chapter in their book of life.
In a good book, all chapters flow together. The stories shared in each chapter all flow together to connect to the larger picture being introduced.
3 QUESTIONS TO ASK AND BRING INTENTIONALITY TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
What did you do well?
Ex: Pushed through in math difficulties? Read 30 books? Made the JV volleyball team? Helped a teacher with a struggling classmate? Volunteer with the special needs students at school? Think academically, socially, and emotionally. What could you have done better?
Ex: Didn’t give your best in history? Engaged in gossip? Got in a fight? Didn’t try to attend a youth group? Slacked off in your handwriting? What was memorable about this school year?
Ex: “In Kindergarten, I learned to read.” “In 4th grade, I struggled in math.” “In 7th grade, I didn’t make the basketball team.” “In 10th grade, I entered the National Honors Society.”

Life is a rollercoaster. The sooner we teach our kids to always push through, regardless of the circumstances… good, bad, extremely difficult, the happiest time… they will begin recognizing that all things shape them. Each story, good or bad, is just a part of a chapter in their lives. And they have a long book they’re writing/living! So don’t rush to the finish line as just another check. Remember what was done well, what could have been better, and what made that one school year one to remember.
When kids are given the opportunity to digest new information with you, their #1 teacher, in their safe space, they begin welcoming new challenges, as their curiosity, competence, and confidence flourishes… making them lifelong learners.
